![]() ![]() I have pretty big hands and sometimes the 11” isnt super comfortable either. Its a pretty good size.ġ2.9 will definitely make your hands tires. ![]() In fact its the first time I’m encountering such a concept, just use it as any other notebook. Zooming in and out isn’t an issue for me. I assume you’re in a very similar situation. You’re however, 1) paying a LOT more, 2) compromising on portability and weight, 3) almost giving up tablet mode as its too big to hold in your hands.Įvery now and then I have the urge to upgrade mine to 12.9” but with a combo of M2 Macbook Air and A12Z iPad Pro 11” I dont think it will do me any good. I dont think there’ll be a problem for you doing hw or projects on 11” or watching movies but yea 12.9 is better for these things. It might be better to take notes but I guarantee you it wouldn’t make a big difference. I have 2020 Pro 11” now and for sure know 12.9” will be too big for cause reading or tablet use. Given your use case and knowing you have a Mac, I’d get the 11”. Point is, 11” wouldn’t be any less efficient than 12.9”. I bought 0 notebooks, just used iPad throughout (Notability). Plus, being a student allow me to get a good price on the last iPads (1100$ for the $ tax in) on the Apple Store.ĭude I literally used 9.7 through the last 2 years of college and grad school and had no issues in note taking. But I’m afraid the 11” is not comfortable for note taking as I don’t want to spend my time zooming in and out.Īlso, I don’t mind taking the M1 but I didn’t find any interesting deals here in Canada. I’d like it to be easy to move (to carry in labs or to put in my backpack) which would be perfect with the 11”. read books for school or just for my pleasure I’d love to only work on my iPad (projects, homeworks etc). take notes with the iPad pencil (in class and in labs). I’m an engineering student and I already own a 2020 MacBook Air (with 16Gb of RAM, 512Gb etc). An 11” you can work on sitting in a coach seat…a 12.9” I think is too big.I watched many videos, went to the Apple Store and spoke with friends of mine owning both sizes of the iPad Pro but I still can’t figure out what size I should take. That screen is a beauty, but those two extra inches really changes the size of the iPad. I did contemplate once moving to the 12.9” iPad with my mot recent iPad Pro purchase (about a year ago). I can also import and edit photos from my travels. I haven’t used an external screen yet (I am also still not a big fan of the keyboard unless I’m reviewing a document). Newer iPadOS versions make saving things easier and working from connected drives. Excel is pretty much nonexistent unless you are just looking at a document. Super easy to hook up to a projector and project from. PowerPoint, easy to re-arrange or customize a talk, more difficult to create a big presentation. Copying, moving text is hard (but not sure harder than on a Mac Book Pro). If you are reviewing/editing, it is easier to use with a keyboard, as you then get the full real estate of the screen to see. Word documents for me are easy to create on an iPad (using only the onscreen keyboard). I am pretty religious at changing models aĮvery two years…mostly because I’ve beaten my iPad up so much, it is slow, sluggish and time for a new battery. ![]() The iPad has revolutionized my ability to do work while traveling (some 100+ flights a year pre-COVID). It was my only personal “computer” for about 6 months when I moved to Germany (which also coincided with the first 6 months of ownership). I was an early adopter of the iPad, buying one about two weeks after they first came out. SharePoint sucks worse than SharePoint on a computer.Ī little about me. It’s easy if you can utilize things like PowerPoint and Word ans storage solutions like Dropbox or Box, PowerPoint and Word. I have, for the most part, swapped my Mac Book Pro laptop for an 11” iPad Pro. Has anyone made the switch to use their iPad for things other than just basic email and Netflix? Which size should I look at? The 11 seems much more portable and easier to hold, but the 12.9 has a great screen. It can still access Remote Desktop in a pinch as well, though I already complain that my MacBook Air screen is too small to get real work done. It seems like the iPad would be a better fit for my use, especially with the Magic Keyboard. If I have to get any real work done, I use the iMac (unless I am out of town). I currently use my MacBook Air 80% of the time to read the paper in the morning and do basic internet stuff from the couch, and 20% of the time if I am traveling for work (which is thankfully rare these days) or go out of town and still need to be connected. Some of the software I need ,I access through Microsoft Remote Desktop on a remote server. I hate doing work on a laptop, so I have an iMac at my "office" office and in my home office. I need help deciding if I should replace my MacBook Air with an iPad, and if so, which one? ![]()
